Award-winning British cinematographer Sean Bobbitt to give an exclusive masterclass this Saturday 8th June at John Ford Ireland Symposium


British cinematographer Sean Bobbitt, who has worked with some of the top British filmmakers of the last 15 years, will give a masterclass in the Light House cinema this Saturday 8th June, as part of the John Ford Ireland Symposium. Bobbitt’s most significant working relationship to date is with director Steve McQueen for whom he worked as cinematographer on ‘Hunger’, ‘Shame’ and the highly anticipated ‘Twelve Years a Slave’. He has also collaborated with Neil Jordan on ‘Byzantium’ and with Spike Lee on the US remake of ‘Oldboy’ . His most recent work to be seen on screen is Derek Cianfrance’s ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’, starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper. A member of the British Society of Cinematographers, he has received BAFTA nominations and he has also won a European Film Award (Shame), a Primetime Emmy (Sense & Sensibility),and a British Independent Film Award (Hunger).
 
This masterclass, which is open primarily to the Camera department, will explore the work of an incredibly talented cinematographer and areas that will be covered include: working with the director - determining camera, format and shooting style, working with the VFX team; how the process has changed in the last 15 years, and where the craft of cinematography is going.
